The jewelery box sat unobtrusively on the table, and Rae couldn't help but feel a little bit daunted by the task in front of her. She knew that Eloise deserved the chance to look through these things as much as Rae herself did, but the fact that in order for that to happen, Rae would have to look through them herself, made it scary. Or maybe not so much scary as... depressing. She knew what was in store. She knew that this was going to hurt. But... she had to do it. Not just for Ellie. She kind of needed the closure herself, too. Most of Elliot's things were gone now, out of the room, moved into storage so that a) she wasn't always depressing herself by looking at his things all the time and b) there was enough room in the small apartment for her, her cousins and her son. Cramped quarters weren't bad all the time, but they didn't provide much room to have 'things' around. EJ had just been fed, and was laying in his crib, playing fascinatedly with the felt-eyed stuffed penguin she'd given him, and Lucas and April were off doing whatever it was Lucas and April did when she wasn't around, and she set the bottle of wine she'd picked out on the table next to the jewelery box. Now, all she needed to do was wait for Ellie to arrive. Though it was probably slightly anal-retentive of her, she wandered over to her son's crib, to be sure that the blankets were warm enough around him. He held the penguin, that was just slightly larger than he was, with all the grip his little one-month-old hands would allow him to have, and stared at her with big brown eyes. “You awake for Auntie Ellie, hm?” she asked him with a little smile. “Let's get you out of there.” |
