It was still weird for April sometimes for someone who wasn’t family to know Lucas so well, she had become so accustom to it being just her, Lucas and James for so long that she had forgotten what it was like to be able to carry on conversations with non-family members like this. In a lot of ways it was nice as well, to have someone else who kind of understood her brother and what made him tick.
“Considering the things he could have asked for, I guess that’s a fairly safe gift.” There had been a few years growing up that Lucas had asked for some oddball things and poor Aunt Anna had made the mistake of actually getting them for him, a mistake she had only made once, thankfully. “Of course you won’t,” she replied with an easy smile. “But I don’t want to know what else you two wind up doing, you’ve managed to scar me for life already.” In all truthfulness April wasn’t that squeamish about her brother’s relationship, she just didn’t care to hear about certain aspects of it.
Well that was another person April could say she knew how to correctly identify now. “She’s building staging for you?” That seemed a little bit like a strange thing for an eighteen year old girl to know how to do, but April wasn’t judging, not really. “I’m sure she’ll appreciate the thank you gift.” Which seemed kind of like a novelty, not many people had time for niceties like that anymore. But then again not many people lived in a fairly secure non-government controlled safe house. April was finding that you could do a lot of things at Sing Sing that you couldn’t really do anywhere else.
Setting the bag of long stale cookies back on the shelf, she turned to make her way down the aisle and towards George. “Definitely ready,” she replied as she hoisted her bag up onto her shoulder better. “So now the search begins for a suitable date outfit, right?” April reached the door of the shop as she asked this and pulled it open, peering outside to check for movement. “We’re all clear and it looked like there might be a clothing shop a couple doors down.” She kept her voice low as she said this, though she was certain George would be able to hear her.
