"Yeah, one of the medics," Jax said of Zach. "He got to enjoy my presence every day for the two weeks I was there." He could only imagine the way Zach might have rolled his eyes if he'd heard that. So Jax liked to pretend he was everyone's favorite person, so what? He grinned at Nick when she said maybe they should try to get someone to put on a Prom. "That's not a bad idea," he said. "I dunno what we'd do for formal wear, but I guess that's not the point. Maybe that one chick who's always talking about movie nights and stuff would want to do it one day." He kept forgetting her name, but it was the blond chick who'd just had a baby.
Jax snorted and rolled his eyes when she asked if he was normal. "I'm more normal than some people," he said breezily. "I'm a quirky kind of normal." Quirky was good, right? He was thinking about reaching for the bottle again when Nick said she wasn't sure someone could be lucky if they hadn't been kissed. He was surprised enough by that that he couldn't even seem to comment, a rarity for Jax, and he just stared at her as she ran on, seeming very flustered. Really? It was hard to believe that someone like Nick had never kissed anybody. She wasn't some blonde teen goddess type, but she was very pretty with her dark eyes and hair.
Finally he found his voice again when she said it was time for a new topic. "Wait, maybe I'm not done with the old one yet," he said. "Were you living exclusively among blind people before you came here? I can't figure out how come you didn't kiss anyone yet." Jax would drop the topic if she really wanted to, but he had to admit he was interested.
