“Or not. I mean everyone already has a low opinion of us teenagers, do you really want to perpetuate that?” Nick wasn’t necessarily trying to talk Jax out of causing trouble. She was just pointing out that it might do them all some good for him not to stir up trouble. Although she had a sneaking suspicion that trouble was his middle name and he wasn’t about to go listening to some girl and her suggestion to stay out of said trouble. She quirked an eyebrow when he grinned, not entirely sure how she should interpret that. And boys thought that girls were the confusing ones.
Nick laughed softly. “You only want me to keep watching so that you have a audience,” she remarked, the smile playing on her lips ruined the kind of blunt tone she was going for. Not everyone had been raised the way she had, she was well aware of this fact. Anyway, the way she had been raised wasn’t all that special, actually there were times it had been downright awful – but she had survived it with the help of her brothers and it had made her tough enough to live in this world now. “And that’s all that truly matters, right?” When you got down to the root of things, most guys liked getting their point across – must be some kind of mucho pride thing or something.
For a moment she tried to remember what television show Jax was talking about, she thought it had to be the one with the four science-y type characters. But instead of commenting on that, she focused on the earlier portion of his words. “Is that why you asked me to hang out, so you could get my drunk and make out with me?” Normally she was a very ‘shoot from the hip’ kind of girl, but even that question was far more straightforward than was entirely normal for her. And what if you’ve never done it at all? The small drunk voice in her head chirped. Nick was only thankful that that thought stayed firmly planted in her mind and she hadn’t actually spoke those words aloud. “And some people are just awful kissers, doomed to ruin the enjoyment of their partners no matter how hard they try at making things interesting.” Nick had no idea where that comeback had come from; she was going to blame the booze. Yes, she was definitely going to blame the booze, because she was in no way trying to egg Jax on. Or maybe she was…her brain was getting just a little fuzzy now.
