Explaining what had possessed her to agree to this would be hard. Actually, no, Nick knew exactly why she had agreed to Jax’s idea – she wanted to be a teenager for once, to do something a little rebellious. This wouldn’t hurt anyone though, and they weren’t damaging anything, so it probably ranked very low on the spectrum of rebellion. Still, it was out of character for her. Maybe it wouldn’t have been if she were still at home in Harlan, or if she were a freshman in college. But for the Nick who resided in Sing Sing, it was.
Maybe Maddie’s words had sunk in more than she wanted. The other girl had made her sound like such a goodie-goodie, that it had made Nick a little angry. Not angry enough to ruin her reputation with the older people at Sing Sing, no, she would never be able to live with herself if she disappointed Rae or even Leah, who somehow thought of her as the most responsible teen around, a fact that Nick was taking as a compliment. But getting a little tipsy wouldn’t hurt anyone, right?
That was going to be her reasoning for the night. Plus, Jax was amusing company and it was better than being alone, because God knows where Benjamin was at that current moment. He was still around Sing Sing, but Nick never quite knew where he was. Her only goal for the evening was to make sure to stay sober enough that she didn’t agree to any intoxicated plans Jax might come up with. The boy liked his troublemaking, that much she knew. Plus, what girl would pass up spending time with a cute boy? Wasn’t like Sing Sing had a million of them running around. She would never admit to that being a reason for agreeing to this tonight, no, she would take that tidbit of information to the grave with her. “I know how to make moonshine, so what do you think?”
Nick snatched the bottle of whiskey from Jax and took a drink, smirking as she handed the bottle back. “Have you ever drank before?”
