“I had a feeling it would happen at some point.” He was confessing to something, so she might as well, too. “Obviously not this soon, but when we were ready.” If it hadn’t happened within the next five years, Leah would’ve given up on the idea. Too risky to have a kid once she was over thirty-five. “You’re more than welcome, Frenchie. This little one’s lucky to have you for a dad.”
Smirking, Leah rolled her eyes to the ceiling as if she were seriously pondering this possibility. “Knowing us, we probably will have a relapse. Having the temptation around will make it harder to ignore. At least for me.”
An emphatic nod. She’d asked him his preference a few times before, but only now was getting an actual answer. It was nice that he agreed with her. “Exactly what I was thinking. You boys are so outnumbered, it’d be nice to have another one around.” She winked, a rare habit of hers. “Glad we’re on the same page with that.” Of course, hoping for a boy and actually having a boy were two completely different things. “I’m not sure Mari would agree, though, considering Ledger, AJ and her godbrother are all boys. She might feel like she’s outnumbered.” It was an amusing thought, to say the least.
“Oh, it’s definitely special, love,” she answered gently, reaching up to put her hand over his. She kept the practical voice in her head quiet, preventing anything else that could potentially take away from the happy mood. This was precisely the reason she’d been on the fence about Evan doing the ultrasound. They were both more focused on how amazing it was to finally see the baby, whereas a doctor would’ve been checking out its health and giving the couple as much privacy as possible for their little moment. Leah was concerned, but not so much that she wanted to risk bursting the joyful bubble.
He stammered out some words. “Did you forget how?” Her smile was warm and understanding. “It’s all right. First time I saw Mari I was pretty dumbstruck myself. I think that’s the only reason I’m able to keep myself mostly together right now.” She kissed his hand again. “Let’s hear that heartbeat and then we can watch it for a little while longer.”
