“Hey now,” Evan pointed at the probe in his hand. “If anyone's the doctor, it's me.” He couldn't help but chuckle a little bit at the thought of them roleplaying. Their alone time was hard to come by. By the time they got it, they were far more rushed than would allow time for anything like that.
Sighing a falsely dramatic sigh, Evan rolled his eyes like he actually meant it. “Such cruelty.” He waved his finger at her, pretending to be angry, but the smirk on his face was pretty much telling her that he wasn't. “You're lucky I'm a glutton for punishment.” Or something like that.
Evan was fully aware that most men didn't want kids. He didn't understand it, though. Children were wonderful. And if you didn't like other people's children, it was all the more reason to have your own. When they were your own, you could raise them properly, how you saw fit. Evan couldn't wait to see how both Marigold and this little one grew up, with Leah and Evan's combined influence. “It was,” he laughed a little bit. “With the trepidation you felt in the beginning, I thought you'd blame me. Be angry at me for awhile.” It was good to hear that she wasn't.
Unable to resist a smirk and a chuckle, he shook his head and then shrugged. “You know, I think, with this new little one on the way? It's as good a time as any for the two of us to give up smoking, what do you say?” he asked. It wasn't the first time he'd said that, and she'd probably know that, but this time, he was actually serious about it.
He pondered that, and then tilted his head. “Does that expire?” he asked. He couldn't remember ever seeing an expiration date, but then, he was never actually paying attention for one.
She took his hand and his attention jumped to the screen as she led him back, a smile growing across his face when he saw the little blob of fleshy mass that currently comprised their baby. “Wow...” he said, completely lost for anything else to say. “I...” This was supposed to be where he had something clever and perfect for the moment, he knew that, but he didn't have a single thing. Nothing fit this moment.
