“And I’m actually looking forward to getting to hogtie little bro. Maybe we can even paint him green, wrap garland around him, and call him our Christmas tree,” Maddie suggested, folding her arms and leaning against the wall.
She wrinkled her nose when Zach referred to Charlie as a parent. It wasn’t that part that bothered her; it was more the implied idea that she was an aunt now. Any maternal instincts she had ended with taking care of pets. She kept her opinion to herself, though. Charlie was her sister and Maddie loved her to bits, and she wouldn’t make her feel bad by reminding her that the kid wasn’t actually hers.
Maddie rolled her eyes at her brother. “Please, I’m the queen of Mad Gab,” she boasted, awkwardly stuffing her hand down in her bag to find the game. For her part, she wasn’t so much competitive as she was too stubborn and determined to allow anyone — namely her siblings — to beat her.
“Charlie, your little pet is loose,” Maddie teased, her expression amused as she watched the kid approach Zach.
