Maybe it was too much for Charlie to hope that Dillon would be there. It wasn’t as if he’d been centered around the family that much lately. It wasn’t entirely her younger brother’s fault. It wasn’t as if she had been around much that month either and the one time she was she got in a fight with Zach about the looting.
“It’s okay. He’s probably just busy,” she said making excuses for her little brother. “And I’m sure he’ll be around for Christmas.” A wave of sadness came over her that could clearly be seen on her face for a moment before put a smile back on. She couldn’t think that Dillon didn’t want to be around them. Dillon had to just be busy doing things or had some important reason why they hadn’t seen him that much. She had a good reason but it wasn’t enough for her. She still thought that she should make time for them. It was just hard for her to learn to balance everything.
She laughed as Zach remarked about the floor. “I might have gone a little overboard with the toys. They all fit in the box though,” she said pointing to a chest under the bunks. Looking around the small cell made her think that she should talk to Evan about getting one of the guard rooms for the space.
“Always,” she said as she used her feet to slide some of the toys into the same section of the room. She was actually looking forward to some fun that didn’t involve little toys.
She pulled out two folding cars from the space between the bunks and the wall. As she did the small boy stood up from where he was sitting. He ran up to Zach and showed him the plush train that he was holding.
