WHO: Ellie and Miah
WHAT: Dealing with the aftermath of the search & talking.
WHERE: Ellie’s Apartment
WHEN: November 28th, 2019; Mid-Afternoon
RATING: Medium, maybe.
Three days. Funny how so much could happen in a seventy-two hour period. Miah couldn’t say exactly what he had been expecting when he’d set foot in Ossining, but running into Ellie and watching as her world fell apart wasn’t necessarily at the top of his list. Actually it was never at the top of his list. Logic told him he couldn’t fix things, the best he could do was be there for her – like back when they were lab techs two steps away from having a mental breakdown. Oh wait, the breakdown had happened. And now I’m watching it happen again. Words weren’t going to bring Ellie’s David back, nothing was. He wasn’t enough of an optimist to think the guy was out there and okay. But he’d never admit that fact to Ellie, she needed to either continue to hold out hope OR come to that realization on her own. His plan in all of this was simply to let her work through her emotions and try and be there for her as best he could. In some ways this felt oddly familiar, making sure she ate, was something he’d done his fair share of back in college. The more things change the more they stay the same, huh? The rollercoaster of the last three days had left very little room for catching up. Maybe talking will distract her. It wasn’t that he didn’t think she deserved to mourn, because she did. But he could slowly see her pulling away from everything and everyone, something that needed to not happen. Leaning in the doorway of her apartment, two plates balanced in his hands, Miah tried to ignore the way everything seemed to constrict at the sight of Ellie curled up in the same position he had left her in when he had gone out for lunch. “Foods here, Lo,” He announced as he stepped into the apartment and latched the door behind him. “Are you hungry?” Miah set the plates down on the small table in the apartment and pulled the forks out of his pocket before he turned his full attention on Ellie again. “You’re not going to make me eat alone, are you?” |
