As long as her own thing wasn't harmful to herself or anyone else, Ev could live with that. She'd always done her own thing, of course, but hopefully she had a little more maturity to balance that out. Hopefully being the optimum word.
"Being bored is a fate worse than death," Everett tweaked her when she said she and Maddie had gone egging because they were bored. His eyebrows lifted when she handed him the chicken, but he gamely took it, hoping it would neither peck him nor poop on him. He couldn't say he'd ever had the experience of holding a baby chicken before; nothing like the apocalypse for learning new things.
"No, no," he said, shaking his head slightly when she asked what was wrong. "It's not that anything's wrong. I just wanted you to know that I need to start looking for Chris again." He'd never liked Chrissy as a nickname for his other sister, so he didn't use it. It was always Chris or her full name. "It's been a really long time, and I just--." He sighed. "It seems like she would've shown up here by now if she was going to." If she could. It might be futile and he knew that perfectly well, but he couldn't just give up.
