Everett wouldn't have said that things were crazy for him, necessarily, but being here was an adjustment. It was one he certainly didn't mind making, because none of the other places had felt comfortable to him, most likely because he hadn't had either of his sisters with him. This felt like a place he could settle, except there was still the problem of finding Chris. If she's even anywhere she could be found, his brain spoke up. He quashed the thought as quickly as he could. Intellectually he knew his other sister could be dead, but he had to hold out hope.
"It's okay," he said when she apologized. "I mean, I guess you thought you might not ever see me again, and here I am." Ev didn't think he was being overbearing-- yet, anyway-- but he knew his presence might be an irritant after a while, especially if Caitie wanted to do something of which he didn't approve. For now, though, they were good.
"Egging," Everett repeated when she told him what she and Maddie had been doing on Halloween. He sounded mildly skeptical, but he didn't comment. That was one of the tamer things they could have gotten up to, and he didn't consider it necessary to pick at Caitie about every little thing. She was eighteen, as hard as that was for him to believe sometimes. "Glad you didn't throw him." He wouldn't want to deal with a baby chicken himself, but it was cute, he had to admit.
"So, hey," he said, figuring he might as well jump on into it. "I need to talk to you about something."
