It had been so difficult for Caitie not to say something to George when she'd gone off on Maddie. Considering the good things that Maddie always said about George—the compliments and all that stuff that made Caitie hate the other girl so unbelievably much—one little jokingly negative comment shouldn't have been enough to poke her over the edge and make her snap. And if it was, maybe George wasn't the kind of friend that Maddie should be around.
But again, that was probably just Caitie's jealousy talking. She wished she didn't feel it, because she knew that George was head over heels in love with Luke, but anyone who got more of Maddie's time than Caitie... was worthy of jealousy. Besides, George was so freaking perfect all the time.
Now wasn't the time for jealousy, though. Now, they were at the new room that they were going to use, and she had Maddie's full attention, too, so there was no use complaining. She turned her head and smiled wide when Maddie mentioned glow in the dark stars. “Dude, yes!” she nodded vehemently. “I think I have some multicolored ones, too! Ooh, ooh, and, and, and!” she bounced excitedly and pointed at the tiny closet area. “We can put a sheet over the door there and turn that into a invisible-blacklight-type paint area and put a blacklight in the fixture! It'll be sweet!”
She turned and looked at Maddie, her smile suddenly faltering, becoming a little awkward, but not disappearing entirely. Was it really fair of her to keep this crush, or whatever the heck it was, from her friend? Luke was supposed to find out some info for her, but he never did. And the longer he waited, the harder it was for Caitie not to just burst out and say it. But... she didn't want to mess their friendship up, either.
After a glance down at the floor, she looked up and smiled again.
“Think there's enough space in here for Chick and Duck to roam around?” she asked, skirting the topic very carefully.
