The thought crossed April’s mind again that she should jump down off of the machine. It was automatic to go on the defense, especially with the vibe coming off of this girl and the way she had just looked her over, like she was sizing her up. She still couldn’t fathom why it was such a big deal that she had borrowed Luke’s clothing or that she was spending time with her brother.
Did Luke have a stalker or something? Maybe that’s what this girl was.
Shock coursed through her as the girl shoved her back against the machine. She hadn’t been expecting that. You should have. a voice in the back of her mind hissed. Blinking a couple times, her expression no doubt looking a bit like a deer caught in the headlights of someone’s car. “No, I’m not,” she answered quietly, shock evident in her voice as she spoke.
Why was the girl sniffling? April was more confused than ever now. She breathed a sigh of relief as the girl stepped away from her, though she wasted no time in jumping down off the machine and moving a couple feet away from the brunette and out of shoving distance. Her eyes scanned over towards the door as she tried to will Luke to show up. Wondering if telepathy was actually something they possessed. Any time now Luke… It didn’t hurt to try, right?
The question pulled her from her thought and her brain kind of hiccuped in the processing of it. “What?” April was blinking cartoonishly again, confusion still written across her features. “Oh my god…” Her voice was barely above a whisper as her eyes went wide and she went speechless as her brain caught up to the conversation and processed just what this girl was asking her. Who would think something like that? April couldn’t even form words to object to whatever this girl was thinking she had done with her brother, the thought alone was simply unsettling to her in so many ways.
