Despite not knowing why the other girl seemed to be so entirely upset over this. April was put on guard when she began to approach her. You should get down. Sitting on the washer didn’t seem like the best idea, she wouldn’t be able to make a quick escape if she needed to. Why was this girl so bothered by the sheer fact she borrowed her brother’s clothing? It seemed bizarre in many ways, and entirely uncalled for. Luke had lent her the clothing – okay, she’d taken them – but he hadn’t minded, so why did this girl?
Maybe Luke would know why?
She chewed on her lower lip, her eyebrows scrunched together in confusion as she thought about this. I wish he were here right now. Reaching up she ran a hand through her hair, her expression still on the bemused side as the other girl spoke again.
Step out of Luke’s life?
April blinded and looked almost like she had been slapped. Where did this girl get off telling her she couldn’t be in her brother’s life? Also, since when did Luke belong to someone? “Excuse me?” Her tone was more perplexed than anything else. “My relationship with Luke is none of your business, and I don’t believe you get to choose who is or isn’t in his life,” April didn’t know who this girl was, but clearly she was delusional if she thought she had some kind of control over her brother’s life. “I think he belongs to himself and he told me I could borrow his clothing.” Her tone was calm, easy going almost as she explained all of this.
Bewilderment was still written all over her face as she added. “Yes, I understand you seem to think you have some kind of power to tell me I can’t be around Luke,” she paused. “And I don’t know who you are, but I’m going to tell you right now that I’m not getting out of his life.” Nearly a year without her brother was enough. It had nearly killed her, so she wasn’t planning a repeat performance anytime soon.
