It was true that misery loved company, if Marlena’s mood was anything to go by. It seemed like since the bomb, since the conversation with Dominic and since Lexi had asked her to move in with them she had been nothing but miserable and touchy. Edgy. Usually, when her moods swung that way she’d make herself get out of whatever funk she was in. But she just didn’t feel like it. There was no reason to be smile-y and happy, no reason to be anything but what she was right now. She would fool nobody anyways; she’d been shown for her true colors and she had to live with the consequences. Even Dominic seemed ready to take or leave her, though he claimed loyalty, it could be bought. Then there was Lexi, who despite what she said, she had people here who were still cared about her. She had more here than Marlena probably ever would, and if Marlena had ever been the envious type she’d be scheming, but she couldn’t be anything but apathetic towards it. The thing was, no matter how much she claimed she was doing all right on her own, she was starting to get lonely. Maybe she should’ve taken Lexi up on the offer to move in, been less inclined to say no and assure that she was fine on her own. If she were really fine she wouldn’t be in the mood she was in. It didn’t help to have the reminders of all the power and authority that she didn’t have. If she hadn’t been stupid enough to think that Tallis was on the same page maybe she would have been able to devise a better scheme. One that had a better ending than becoming a social outcast. It didn’t help that there were individuals at Sing Sing that clearly didn’t deserve the authority they were given; hadn’t really earned in from what Marlena had heard. At least she could count herself lucky that the only thing she’d had to deal with was a little gawking and sour looks. It made the necessary things, like going to the cafeteria that much more bearable. But not so lucky to avoid Leah Stone. Of all the people to be passing by; Leah had been on the top of the list to avoid if at all possible. |
