Jax could actually carry a tune. Nothing fantastic, like, he never would have been a contender for American Idol or The Voice, had those shows still been around, but people wouldn't run screaming if he sincerely tried to sound okay. It was more fun to be outrageous and silly with it, though, and he'd been sadly lacking on fun lately. That was his excuse, anyway. He let the plastic cover fall to the couch, still balancing himself on the arm, and said, "Heeeeey. Wonder if my singing would scare off the zombies? Wish I woulda thought of that when they started swarming me." Making light of serious subjects was his way. Better to laugh than to cry, right? He didn't mind at all that the girl was picking at him. It was fun. Nothing like some snappy banter.
He turned his attention to figuring out how to get the first fluorescent bulb out of its case, nodding enthusiastically when she asked if he was going to remove one of the lights. "Yeah, 'cause I like when it's dark right around the TV screen." Jax got the first one out and held it contemplatively by one hand near one end. "Man, wouldn't this make a cool light saber? If the light would actually work now." He swished it in the air and carefully lowered it to the couch, not wanting to break it and have bits of glass everywhere. "Oh, yeah!" he said when she told him her name. "That network thing? Is totally cool." It was entertainment, something that was in short supply anymore.
Jax liberated the second and last fluorescent bulb and lightly jumped to the floor, nodding his approval of the light scheme. "Much better."
