The very thought of dating was ridiculous to Noah. Because hello, apocalypse. Who knew what awful things would come down the pike next? Still, he was planning to enjoy this evening. Having fun with like-minded people was what it was all about. Nice, uncomplicated fun. That was what he was after, and while obviously he didn't know Vienna well enough to know what she was really like deep down inside, he was going to hope that was what she was after, too. They'd connected somehow in one brief in-person conversation and a couple of network ones, and what was wrong with that?
So they were just hanging out together, and he was hoping to charm her with his witty banter and maybe certain other skills, if she were so inclined. It had sounded like she might be, but that remained to be seen. Still, he'd made a reasonable effort with his appearance, shunning the jeans he often wore around the compound that had holes in various places, going instead for a less faded pair, a clean black t-shirt that showed the tats on his forearms and a pair of socks. He never wore shoes when he was 'home', but the place could be drafty, and he liked to cover his bare feet.
Noah had also straightened up a little. Luckily, he'd outgrown some of the typical male slob-ness that had plagued him in his late teens and early twenties, and the cell hadn't been that bad to start with, at least. He had the dinner he'd wheedled out of the kitchen staff set up on the desk, along with the little mini-flashlight that was to be their candle. Cheesy, but what the hell? His cell was also lit by the overhead light, although the light from the corridor was blocked since he'd done his version of winterizing. The open parts of the cell in front were covered, both to keep heat in and prevent people from gawking in at him as they walked by.
He'd been wandering around, not nervous but not wanting to be still, either, and he reversed direction when he heard Vienna's knock. He swept the cell door open for her, giving her a rakish smile. "Absolutely. C'mon in." She might be wearing ordinary clothes, but a girl who looked like that didn't need anything extra, he thought.
