Evan nodded when she told him that she had to stay with Mari. “It's okay. She doesn't mind. She understands.” Evan was still having a hard time dealing with not having Leah around, naturally, but... he figured that if she wanted to come back, she would. Or maybe not. Maybe she was waiting for him to apologize. Which he was more than willing to do.
Nodding his head, he chuckled a little bit. “It honestly makes a little more sense, too, now that I have a chance to think about it,” he said simply. “The whole morning sickness in March thing. Usually that takes a few more weeks to kick in, you know? So... yeah.” He chewed on his lip. Avoidance was apparently the name of the game, but Evan was getting tired of avoiding. It hadn't been that long, but he missed her. He wanted them to be “them” again.
“If anyone knows what she's dealing with, it's you. Maybe not exactly, but...” he trailed off. “I think it'll do both of you some good to talk.” Maybe, anyway. If Leah wasn't feeling any jealousy. He'd understand if she was.
With a shrug, Evan looked at her. “She considers you a part of the family, though. You're my girlfriend. You're the most important person in my life... you, Mari and George are, anyway,” he told her with a small, slightly worried smile. “You're my family, therefore if I'm family, it stands to reason that you're hers, too...” he told her seriously.
The smile wilted when she mentioned Elliot, but he laughed once and nodded his head. “Probably, yeah. There were a few tough moments,” he explained. “She introduced me with the nickname Elliot used to call me. Uncle Don Evan? It was...” he trailed off. He probably didn't need to say. “But it was a pretty smooth birth, all things considered.”
He loved that little surprised look that she got on her face, and his little smirk reflected that. “That's a part of it, yeah,” he told her with a nod, then pointed down the hall, a silent request for her to walk with him while he explained. “But also sort of just... advisers? Helpers, you know? Especially in her situation.” He didn't think he needed to explain exactly what he meant by that. “She has David everyone else, but...” he trailed off. If how they'd been during the murderer ordeal was any indication, she'd need as many people as she could get helping her out. They'd discussed that before, he remembered. “She requested you specifically,” he said with a smile.
