So he’d been here all night. That was… she wasn’t sure what that was, but it made her feel more like she should’ve been present. She glanced away. Maybe she should’ve forced herself to be there, even if she hadn’t felt like she should’ve been. It wasn’t her place to be there, anyway. It had been somewhat of a lonely night, staying with Marigold in Lilah’s room, while Lilah was with Kori.
It wasn’t a day to focus on her own problems, though. It was EJ’s birthday. She pasted a small smile on her face and turned back toward Evan.
“Good. I’m glad. Everyone I talked to was worried because he was early, but I had a feeling he’d be just fine. How’s Rae?” It was easier to talk about other things. Continuing with the avoiding game.
Leah moistened her lips again. “So were you here all night? With everyone else?”
“It must’ve been exciting. I hope she’s not mad that I didn’t come. I just figured the room would be crowded enough…” She shrugged awkwardly. Or maybe she’d just been selfish. Rae never minded being surrounded by people. “I should tell her I’m sorry.”
