Ev was determined to take hold here. Caitie being here made all the difference; he could make this home base, a place from which he could depart for short periods of time as he searched for Christina and feel confident-- most of the time-- that she was safe. It was good to know that there was someone else here dealing with a younger sibling. He didn't know Zach's full story yet, but they had at least that in common.
Everett laughed ruefully at the other man's comments. "Yeah, if Maddie's anything like Caitie, there's already been trouble. I'm not even sure I want to know what they've done already." There was an indulgent tone to his voice despite his words. He couldn't imagine his sister doing anything too horrible. She could be a brat, but then so could anyone her age, without half trying. He settled back down on his bench again, now that introductions had been made, and reached for the weights he'd racked a few moments ago. "You been here long?" he wanted to know. From what he'd observed, people came and went, and it was entirely possible that one could completely miss meeting others.
