Fortunately for Rae, someone showed up before she tried to stand up, because of she had, she'd probably have toppled and ended up landing on both of the kids, hurting both of them, herself and EJ. Rae heard the voice before she looked up and her memory served her well this time, a smile on her face before she even glanced up.
“Yep,” she responded to his question, megawatt smile still in place at the sight of a familiar and friendly face. “Thanks.” She accepted the toy—a baby doll—and looked at Emma. “You two,” her attention turned to Devin as well, “need to stop that, okay? This party is supposed to be fun and there are definitely enough toys for everyone. Here, Ems. Why don't you take this and go play with Brittany and Marigold, and you can go show your teddy to Ledger and some of the other boys, Dev. No more fighting please.”
Emma looked at Rae, then at Devin, who turned to Rae and said, “Alright, Miss Rae,” but made a face at Emma before turning to run and play with the boys. Emma looked at the doll, trying to decide if it was worth ending the feud, but apparently it passed the test, because she scurried over to where Marigold and one of the other girls were playing with their winnings. She shook her head and looked up at Silas.
“Sorry about that. Kids on a sugar high can be a pretty dangerous thing...” she said, her attention drawn to where Devin was now chasing Ethan around, making his teddy bear growl.
“Anyway... fancy meeting you here, Mr. Solo,” she said, unable to stop the tiniest of smirks from coming to her face. She'd never been too heavy into Star Wars, but her aunt's boyfriend had been a huge fan, to the point that Rae knew enough to have a decent conversation about it. Besides, she knew enough about pop culture, too. “And don't you just look dashing tonight.” Her normal cheery demeanor didn't really do her Juno costume credit, because if memory served, Juno was very pragmatic and slightly sarcastic, but a leopard couldn't really change its spots.
And besides... she wasn't joking. He did look pretty good like that.
