Pulling a face at Maddie's words, Zach wondered if his baby sister realized that she clearly made it sound like she had thought about leaving or not being around at some point. "Didn't have solid plans, huh?" Had it been his neglectful nature that made her even entertain the idea? He knew he wasn't alone in this, Charlie and Dillon had been just as distant at times. But he was the oldest and without their parents around wasn't it his job to watch out for everyone else?
"Damn, and here I thought I might have surpassed him by this point." He cast his gaze down at the ground in his best attempt to look disappointed, though he had a feeling the smirk that was fighting to appear kind of ruined the whole effect. "I'll find someone who's tough enough to handle 'em," he paused a beat. "That person would probably be me, not going to inflict your wrath on some poor stranger." He took a couple steps back as he spoke, fully prepared for another round of 'smack Zach with a notebook' to happen.
Violence wasn't his first reaction to most things, but when it came to his sisters and some creepy hassling them, well Zach couldn't help but have a violent reaction. He knew Charlie would have never let him even go as far as hollering at the guy, but Maddie wasn't Charlie. Being a medic, he didn't particularly want to inflict harm on the guy, but if it came to that he wouldn't back down. Thankfully the rocker didn't do much more than holler a obscenity back at him. "Pretty sure even the ladies in his age bracket wouldn't want him," Zach remarked, celebrity or not, the guy was washed up and he was pretty sure not even the apocalypse had made women that desperate. "Even if they were around."
Zach just shook his head at Maddie's response, it was once he'd heard at least fifty times before. It should have been a hint for him to stop suggesting she help out in the infirmary, and yet he still asked time and again. "Too each their own I guess," was his response. He had seen worse while in the Army, so not much phased him when it came to infirmary work. "Although I haven't come across anyone with their guts hanging out yet, for the record." At least not here. His eyebrows rose when Maddie suggested he ask Charlie to help him out in the infirmary. Last time he had checked she was avoiding it hardcore. "Really? Charlie's warming up to the medical field again?" Clearly he had been living under a rock if he hadn' t noticed this, or maybe she just spoke to Maddie more than she spoke to him.
"Did you make sure to get their actual names as well?" Zach wouldn't have put it past his sister to simply write down the nicknames, but maybe he wasn't giving her enough credit here. When she tugged the notebook away from him he didn't fight to keep it, there was only so far he could go with his teasing, that much he knew. "Not particularly, I'd rather know what kind of nickname my dear sister is going to publish for the entire compound to see."
"I prefer to call it making the rounds, but yeah, maybe it is just walking around talking to people." And avoiding winding up in the Four Horsemen for the millionth night in a row. "Not checking on life-threatening, just checking up on how things are healing with certain people. Not everyone takes real good care of themselves once they're free of the infirmary."
