Hi. Well, that was a hell of a conversation starter. Scratching the back of his neck awkwardly, he nodded a greeting in response to her hello and turned his attention to the ground. Some things would never change, David supposed, and his nervousness when it came to confrontation was naturally one of those things.
Swallowing nervously, he cleared his throat and looked at her. “It's uh... it's been awhile.” Not as long a while as it had felt like, really; David was a different person than the one she'd left behind in May, and it was shocking that it had only been a couple of months. He'd ask her how she'd been, but he was fairly certain he knew.
Truth be told, he didn't want to see her smile. He was sure that it would bring back memories; memories of happier and easier times. Times when he had his brother. She waved his apology off and he chuckled awkwardly. “Right.” He was busy. Busy being his usual chicken self.
With the comment about how he looked, David's expression drew down into a frown. He knew what she was saying. “I know,” he murmured during the pause. She said that it was good to see him and he nodded his head in response, saying, “Y-yeah. You too,” with a half-smile. The worst part was... he wasn't sure if he was being honest. The heartbreak of losing her the way he had, had subsided long ago. But seeing her now... it felt fresh.
“So, um... what did you want to say? The other day, I mean.”
