A small part of him still felt guilty for standing Lexi up when she'd asked to meet. She'd claimed that all she'd wanted to do was apologize, but with everything that had happened since they'd made those plans, Rae's creepy gift and the fact that there were others around the compound, meeting up with someone whose intentions were still unclear didn't seem like the best idea. As much as it might have been nice to hear an apology straight from her. Besides that, there was still the fact that he didn't know what she wanted from him. Not that he thought he was special enough to warrant her attention like that again, he just thought maybe, with their history, and the fact that she seemed to suddenly want to reconnect with everyone she'd hurt here, it was a possibility. And wouldn't that be his luck? Finally in a stable, normal relationship, and bam, there's his ex-girlfriend—his first love—wanting to reconnect. Now wasn't the time to think about that, though. He was on his way to the kitchen to get lunch, on a short break from his vet duties for the day. He'd left Leah to watch the place—hesitantly, given all that she'd been through recently—and made his way in the direction of the kitchen. Stuffing his hands in his pockets to stave of the October chill, he hurried toward his destination. |
