Searching for family seemed to be so common place that it no longer was odd to run into at least one person a week who was passing around pictures or inquiring about family. Nick always found herself wondering if she was terrible for not going back to New York City and getting Levi, or if maybe she should be passing Jacob's picture around to people who come into the compound. Her excuse was that she wasn't the oldest, hadn't ever been the one that would look out for everyone else - she had always been the one other people would look out for. Still, she thought maybe she should bring the idea up to Benjamin and see what her older brother's opinion on it might be. Maybe he would want to go back to the city for Levi, or maybe he wouldn't.
Nick had respect for anyone who had the nerve to move from safe house to safe house. Or even move outside the walls of the prison. This guy had clearly been doing this more than the once, which only made her respect him more. It wasn't easy out there, yet clearly he was surviving just fine.
This wasn't the first time someone had asked her to look at pictures. But as Nick recognized Caitie she felt a kind of pride or happiness swell in her chest because this was the first time she could actually tell someone she knew someone in one of the pictures. Smiling softly, Nick looked straight at Everett and met his gaze as she replied. "Dead sure," she answered with a certainty that was unwavering. Although some would have taken him grabbing the pictures back as rude, Nick had never been one to pay much attention to manners and what was right or wrong. "Yes, she's a friend of mine," Nick explained, her expression serious and her tone honest. "I think I know where she might be right now," she paused for a moment to shove the tape measure she had been using earlier back into her back pocket with the roughly drafted plans for the ice rink. "Would you like me to take you too her?"
