It was obvious that Nick had startled the guy, even if his reaction had been fairly subtle. Sometimes she forgot that other people had a tendency to live inside their heads when alone, just like she did. Though maybe it was just a byproduct of the apocalypse that most people spent a lot more time thinking when alone. Maybe she shouldn't have bothered him, some people liked to be left alone and the promise she had made to Rae rang in her head. She had told the other woman she'd be careful and wouldn't put herself in harms way. Not to say this guy was going to harm her or anything, but you never knew who might come walking in off the street so to speak.
Making a conscious effort to keep some distance between them, Nick flashed a friendly smile as she spoke. "Yeah, it's not really sleeping out underneath the stars weather anymore," she agreed. Sure it wasn't freezing yet, but it would be fairly soon. "And you never know, we could get a snow storm any day now." She had seen it happen once before, though the snow hadn't stuck around for very long.
Nick cast an appraising gaze over the guy. He was handsome, though he had this look of a person who had all the weight of the world on his shoulders. Her eyebrow rose when he admitted to this being his first day at Sing Sing. "Really? So your touring the grounds then?" She paused a beat before adding. "Be careful, this place has a reputation for being kind of confusing to get around in."
The polite thing now was to introduce herself, wasn't it? Nick had never been all that good at the whole 'proper manners' thing, but that much she did know. "I'm Nick, by the way," she held out her hand to the man, her friendly smile still in tack. "Welcome to Sing Sing."
