WHO: Evan and Leah
WHAT: It's Evan's birthday!
WHERE: Evan and Leah's place.
WHEN: Forward-dated to October 17th, evening.
RATING: Medium, maybe.
So much had been happening that it had genuinely slipped Evan's mind that it was his birthday. No, it wasn't exactly like birthdays were important anymore, but that was one of those things that was kind of hard to forget. Still, with everything happening around the compound—people appearing to start trouble and people going missing—turning twenty-nine was the last thing on his mind. Admittedly, the thought had crossed his mind once a couple of weeks ago, that he was even closer to thirty, and that he was finally accomplishing his long-set goal of having his family. But with everything else that was going on, it was pushed to the back of his mind. That woman. That brunette that came with Allie and the other two... Evan recognized her from somewhere, but he couldn't figure out where from, and it was driving him insane. She had a familiar face, and Evan couldn't help but wonder if he'd met her somewhere back in the safehouses... or something like that. She always looked at him with calculating maliciousness. And then there was the matter of whether Allie could be trusted at all. Evan wasn't as sure as others were one way or another. Leah, as well as a couple others, seemed to be firmly in the “no” camp, and Rae, Brandon and a few others seemed to be in the yes camp... it was frustrating. There had been a few more incidents... the pipes, the gate... a break in at the armory Evan knew that one of their newcomers was responsible. But without proof, the consequences would be even worse than waiting for proof. At least he thought so. Breathing deep to calm himself as he walked toward his apartment door, he smoothed one hand through his hair and used the other to open the door. “Anybody home?” he called to Leah and Marigold as he kicked his sneakers off. |
