Out of all the people left in Sing Sing, Brandon was probably the one Lexi felt most comfortable being around. She shouldn’t have. By all reasons, she had no business meeting up with the man who’d helped ruin her reputation in the colony. She tried to tell herself that it was necessary, that it was what Tallis wanted; for Lexi to get in good with Brandon so that Dominic would have his way onto the Security team.
Mike had already welcomed Dominic and several others onto the team, though. Lexi didn’t really believe the man was a complete moron. He had to have some smarts to have survived this long. She sincerely hoped he’d let Dominic on because he was suspicious.
But no matter that one of Lexi’s objectives was already complete, she suspected that Tallis would want her to keep to the plan anyway. Merge back into the colony’s life. For Lexi, Brandon was the key to do that. Time had dimmed her emotional attachment to him, which was good, else deceiving him would’ve been that much harder. Allie had missed him, but Lexi couldn’t afford to let those feelings rule.
Everyone was keeping an eye on her. Both her old people and her new group. None of them trusted her, which was wise but at the same time it was an isolating feeling. As she made her way across the grounds to the guard tower to meet up with Brandon, Lexi found that she was glad it was dark. All the better to hide from the dozens of pairs of eyes that watched her during the daytime. Waiting for her to make one wrong move.
“And she even dressed warmly, so that he wouldn’t feel obligated to keep her warm.” That was her greeting as she reached the top of the tower and spotted Brandon. She opened her arms and glanced down to indicate the hoodie she was wearing, before looking back up and giving him a smile. “It’s good to see you again, Brandon.”
