Noah had been doing some exercising of his own, jogging and then gradually slowing down to a walk and finally pausing for some stretches. He liked to get out and about for exercise when it was dark, hoping that it would help him wind down for the sleep that didn't come naturally to him anymore. Sometimes it helped and sometimes it didn't, but he continued to work at it. Insomnia had never been a problem for him before all this had happened, although he imagined that most people had at least some trouble sleeping anymore.
Sweat stippled his body, and his breathing was still slightly faster as he stretched one arm over his head and brought it down with the palm turned in just behind his neck. With his other hand, he held the opposite elbow, keeping the arm angled just right and enhancing the stretch. Noah was deep in thought, and it startled him when he heard a dog barking and then jumping up on him with its front paws.
Noah was cool with dogs as long as they didn't seem apt to bite him, and he dropped his arm and lowered a hand for the animal to sniff. "Hey, you," he said to it, then turned his head to check out the dog's evident owner when she spoke.
The woman looked familiar, and at first Noah thought it was because she had similar coloring to his ex-wife. But no, that wasn't it. He actually knew her from the Garden safehouse, where they'd both been for a while. "Imagine meeting you here," he said with a smirk and a lift of his eyebrows.
