Kelley knew he couldn't give up on trying to find Brandon. If he gave up, his life would have absolutely no purpose at all. With Juniper gone, the only family he felt he had was Brandon and if he kept searching for the boy then he'd at least have some motivation to get up in the morning and push forward. Without that reason, he'd have given up a long time ago and just taken himself out of the equation. Not that he planned to admit any of that to Brandon now that he'd found him.
The older man shook his head and clapped Brandon on the shoulder, giving him a little squeeze. "Don't beat yourself up about not finding an old man," he told him. "I found you," he murmured, shrugging a little. "That's what matters." Now maybe he could have a peaceful night's sleep for once. Oh what a wonderful thing that would be.
He listened to him talk about the place and he chuckled. "You had me at showers and beds," he said, letting out a little breath. "Tell me you've got hot water and I'll never leave." It would sure as hell be better than the conditions he'd been living in the last few years. Anything could be better than that.
