WHO: Nick and Silas
WHAT: Making her first attempt to prove she’s not out to destroy the garage.
WHERE: The Garage
WHEN: October 1st, 2019; afternoon
RATING: Medium, maybe.
This was insane. She didn’t need a baby-sitter to work in the garage, but arguing that fact had seemed pointless so Nick hadn’t even tried. She knew when to push her boundaries and when to smile and agree. This was one of those smile and agree moments. If Silas wanted to baby-sit her while she worked, well, that was his choice and she was just going to have to prove she was capable and not out to destroy his garage in any way, shape, or form. He didn’t know her though, so Nick supposed she couldn’t fault him for judging her on what he did know, which was that she was a teenager and she spent time around one of the ‘troublemakers’ of Sing Sing. Nick had spent the last couple of days figuring out in her head how exactly to go about adding cages onto golf carts. That morning she had even gone as far as to draw out a diagram to show Silas and get his opinion on. She now held the sheet of paper in one hand as she made her way towards the garage, nerves just a little on edge because she didn’t want to get laughed out of the garage because of this. Nick could handle a lot of things, but someone laughing at her when it came to constructing things was not one of those things. Maybe she wasn’t giving Silas the benefit of the doubt though. Even if he was requiring her to have a baby-sitter, that didn’t mean he’d toss out her ideas before hearing them out, did it? Shoving the diagram into her back pocket, Nick wiped her hands on her jeans and pulled her sunglasses down to shield her eyes. She knew that showing up hiding behind sunglasses was going to convey attitude, but she couldn’t bring herself to care about that. It was her shield against the world and in this situation she needed it, because despite her confidence at her abilities, she still felt nerves when it came to proving herself to Silas. Taking one last deep breath, Nick tried to calm herself as she stepped into the garage and called out. “Hello?” she paused just inside the door. “Anyone in here?” What she didn’t add was ‘to baby-sit me’. That wouldn’t go over well and she was well aware of that. |
