Better her than zombies. Rae chuckled at that. "That's true. And they're a lot more eat-first-ask-questions-later about it, aren't they? Or maybe... eat-first-eat-more-later." She smirked at her joke, then gave him a slightly more genuine smile. It was easy to joke with him. Even when she felt like maybe she shouldn't let herself get attached. "Well, I'll rest easier tonight knowing I'm a step above a zombie when it comes to wake up calls, then."
His sheepish grin was met with a slightly more genuine smile as she wet her lips. "That's okay. I like you not subtle." His honesty made things a whole lot easier. Knowing that he would just tell her if something was wrong made her trust him more. "Makes me want to be less subtle, and you know how much fun it is for both of us when I'm not subtle." Punctuated with a wag of her eyebrows.
After all the talk about the bed being warmer, she was surprised when he sat at the table, but not so much once he'd answered her question.
It was weird. She knew it had to be, but somehow, hearing him say it was a little more upsetting than she'd expected it to be. She glanced at her hands, but then turned to look at him in surprise when he asked if it was working for her. "Well, yeah, it's working for me." Though not as well as she was letting him think; she used to be better at the lack of attachment thing than she'd become. "But I'm not the only one that matters here, Silas."
Fighting down the urge that told her not to tell him this, she said, "You're important to me. You've been good to me. Amazing. I want this to work for both of us. I don't want to be selfish about this. It's supposed to be mutually beneficial. I want you to enjoy yourself, too." But, if he wasn't, she also didn't really want to let go. It was a hell of a catch twenty-two.
She looked around the room, then breathed a sigh. She'd been slowly putting more of Elliot's things into storage. Giving some to David. Though it was more for the sake of her sanity than anything else. There weren't all that many left, actually, but the ones that were... were prominent. She supposed, even if she didn't put all of them into storage, she could put some in the closet. "I can at least put them in the closet," she offered.
