A thought had struck Nick earlier that day, an idea for a t-shirt actually. One that would read ‘Sing Sing’s little helper’, mostly because it seemed like she did a lot of offering of help, but only to those people she cared about – like Rae – or for things she really wanted to do – like work in the garage constructing things. Still, this wasn’t how she thought things were going to go when she came to Sing Sing, but she wasn’t complaining. Honestly having Rae kind of take her under her wing early on had been comforting and had helped with the transition. It was just a perk that Nick happened to adore the blonde, even with all of her optimism and positivity. Today she was making her way to the cafeteria to help decorate the place for Halloween. Helping Rae out because the other woman really couldn’t and shouldn’t be climbing ladders anymore and Nick was perfectly capable of the task. Plus brownies would be involved and if there was one thing she couldn’t refuse, it was the offer of sweets in exchange for work. Sometimes life kind of seemed surreal to her, things weren’t ‘normal’, but they weren’t terrible at Sing Sing either, and that was saying a lot. She had friends and things to do, like planning the Halloween party and watching Diddy for Rae whenever she needed a monkey-sitter. It didn’t make her forget that the world sucked, but it made it more bearable. Stepping through the doorway of the cafeteria Nick let her gaze travel around the room before she spotted Rae off near the kitchen. “Hey, ready to point me in the direction of the decorations and ladder?” She called across the room. “I’m at your service for as long as you need me.” |
