When Caitie got into her performing, it was hard to tear her attention away from it. As a matter of fact, she didn't even notice Leah's eyes on her until a break in the second verse, and even then, she didn't stop what she was doing. If she aspired to be a singer, she needed to get used to all kinds of people watching her. Even real life ugly witches like Maddie's friend Brandon's big sister.
She subtly used one of the motions in the dance to pull her earbud from her ear, just in case bitchy-Leah decided to address her, but continued on like nothing had changed. Now she could hear her voice and now the performance would be even better. If the woman was going to stare, Caitie would give her something to stare at. A performance for the ages, so to speak.
But then, bitchy-Leah spoke up, and Caitie's attention turned to the older woman. Never one to let intimidation show, she rolled her eyes and shrugged her shoulders. "Whatever, I've got more talent than you've ever had, I bet. In anything. You're too weighed down by all that mean old ladyness to be good at anything," she said with all the seriousness that a teenaged girl said anything. As far as she was concerned, she meant it down to her bones, and she was absolutely right.
"Besides, you're a lousy critic," she added. "No taste." And with that, she hummed along with the song that she could still hear in one ear, and turned to walk away.
