A small sigh of relief escaped Nick once Kori had replied. Part of her was always expecting people to be offended by her honesty, thankfully it seemed like Kori might be a hard person to offend. “Sorta was, I mean I thought of it after all, and I’m definitely not ‘little miss brilliant’ or anything,” no the brilliance in her family belonged to Gavin. “Honestly I’d give my left arm for a week of being able to escape from all of this,” but she’d take a couple of hours over nothing at all.
Nick honestly didn’t want to know what Kori might be thinking about to get that wistful happy look on her face, some things were best left alone. Nodding as Kori spoke, Nick still couldn’t imagine having someone around like that or someone she cared about like that. Sure she cared about her brothers, but that was entirely different. She wondered if it’d be stupid to admit dating was an extremely scary concept, after all the world had gone to hell before she’d ever had a chance to do it. “Dating was hard before the outbreak, or at least that’s what my brothers always made it seem like. So I’m not really holding my breath that I’ll be finding anyone that’ll make me feel that way, thanks though for the positive thought.”
“Exactly, we’ve got time,” she agreed. “This’ll be the best Halloween party this place as ever seen. Granted it’ll be the first one it’s ever seen as well, so that’s not saying a lot I guess.” Nick laughed as she said this, though she still hoped it’d be a great party, for the kids’ sake.
Assuming that people would be up for doing things for this party wasn’t exactly something Nick wanted to do, but she really would be surprised if Rae didn’t offer, although she also didn’t want the older woman to overwork herself in her current condition. “A party for Christmas would be nice, though I’d vote for a non-religious one,” she and big guy upstairs weren’t exactly on speaking terms. “We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it, yeah?”
