Kori's expression brightened when Brandon appeared. It wasn't a secret that Kori tended toward preferring the company of her brother. But she did at least try to control herself when she got up to give him a hug. She really didn't want Leah making a snide comment about how much more excited she was to see their brother. They just needed to make it a couple hours and then they could go back to ignoring each other from opposite ends of the safe house.
Leah's absent nod barely even registered on Kori's radar, she was used to her comments on the kids going over her sister's head like a lead balloon. And maybe she got a little perverse pleasure out of how it hurt Leah. It was really tiny but it was there and on those nights where she was being truthful about how she felt that tiny part killed her too. Just because Leah hated her didn't mean she had to sink to her level.
"Yeah we were just..." She paused for a moment searching for the right word, "talking is all." She gave him a bright smile and light nudge toward the table. "What Leah said. Spam is gross once it's cold you know that."
