The little one. That sent another cold shiver of anxiety through her. As if it was already a certainty. Leah swallowed past the lump in her throat, relieved that she was actually able to keep herself from snapping into defensive mode when it wasn’t necessary. When they were younger, it had always been easiest keeping her cool around her youngest sister.
Years ago, Leah never thought she’d ever have to make a decision over whether to get rid of a baby. She’d always wanted a family of her own and, although it was belated and complete different than what she imagined, she had that family now. She was content with how things were now. Another child would only add to the chaos and uncertainty of that family’s future.
It wasn’t a decision she wanted to consider, but there really wasn’t any point in worrying herself sick if there was no need to. Sure, all the symptoms were there, but it could still simply be a virus she’d caught. She nodded when Kori suggested they find out for sure.
Stepping over to the counter, Leah studied both tests, closing her eyes when the results registered. Blue lines on both. It should’ve been a good sign. A happy sign. But it wasn’t. “What’s that you were saying about rash decisions?” It was a rhetorical question. She stepped back so that Kori could see for herself.
