A history of bad decisions and keeping feelings locked in told her that this could be both a good and bad idea. But, as she sat on the bed, watching Silas piece together the bits of the dinosaur crib that she and Elliot had chosen months ago, she couldn't help but think that it was unfair of her to do this. To lie to him. Since she'd come to grips with the fact that she liked him, every time she spent time with him, that fact was harder and harder to ignore. And Rae had never been that great at ignoring her feelings to begin with, so it was even more difficult for her. She wondered if he could feel her eyes on him, watching him as he put the crib together. She was pretty sure she'd spent more time watching him than the structure, and while she felt guilty, she also felt a little bit nervous. Like, as the structure came together, she was inching closer and closer to the moment of truth. "Man, I don't know how you do that," she said as she watched him pick up the right bolt from a pile. It didn't even look like he'd even tried seeking it out, just found it after a quick glance. "I'd be totally lost if I tried to do this." After all, she knew that this could be the point of no return for their friendship. That if he didn't react favorably, or if he wasn't okay with what she had to say, it could be the nail in the coffin. But if she didn't ask, if she didn't tell him, and there was a chance that things would be okay? It was always the unknowns that plagued her mind. Maybe it's Ellie's influence, she thought with a little chuckle that accidentally came out loud. Biting her lip, she glanced from Silas to the finished crib with a smile. "You're good," she told him. "Looks better than I thought it would." She brushed a hand through her hair and then nodded over to the small table where his dinner sat. "You probably worked up a little appetite, hm?" She'd tell him while he ate. Or maybe after he ate. Nervous is a weird color on you, Rae, she thought. |
