Maddie shrugged a shoulder. “My sister goes out all the time and she hasn’t been bitten. My friends go out there, too, and I think only one of them’s been bitten.” Like hell was she going to be the chicken that stayed behind while everyone else went without her. They were younger than she was, too, which made the implied peer pressure worse.
Maddie wrinkled her nose at Brandon’s description of the Stripper. “No wonder she’s so popular now. I don’t get how people do that. Bang anyone they meet. Unless it’s just a boredom thing.” She frowned ahead of them at nothing in particular. Was she giving off mixed signals? For that matter, was she giving off signals at all? She glanced at him and then away quickly. Maybe he’d caught on to how she viewed him and had decided to play games with her again.
She rolled her eyes when he played off making fun of her accent. “Well it was a crappy accent anyway, so for all I know it could’ve been German or something.”
Getting everyone’s attention was easy and fun. As far as she was concerned, every person in the cafeteria could stare at her as long as they wanted. She enjoyed it. She casually dug into her dinner when they were seated, only laughing again when Brandon did. “I like winning.”
