Maddie grinned wickedly. “It sounds like I’ve got my next prank, then. If your sister can come up with a stink bomb formula, that is. Maybe we’ll catch him while he’s in the same room as that Taisce chick. Put a little awkwardness on the table.” Apart from previous threats to toss her into solitary confinement, Maddie didn’t really have any issues with O’Brien. It was just fun to fuck with him.
“Obviously they’ve been giving you the good drugs. Do I have to give you the speech about how drugs are bad? I mean, all you gotta do is take a look at the creepy rock star wannabe guy who kept trying to flirt with me a while back. That guy had problems.” She was glad he wasn’t around bugging her anymore.
Cop sense. It was still a strange concept, a guy like Brandon being a cop. It took all types, she supposed, and it was most definitely a good thing that he wasn’t the type of cop that was overweight and moronic, like a few Memphis cops she’d known of back in the day. “Good ‘people sense’ is basically code for ‘hard to lie to’, isn’t it?” Maddie wasn’t quite sure why that didn’t bother her.
The smile fought its way through, in spite of her efforts. “Okay, so I played it once or twice back in the city. Pissed off some old people and got some unwanted attention from some of the guards, but it was fun times,” she explained as they entered the cafeteria.
Indignation filled her expression when he said that she had to start the game because of all his stupid little conditions. As if she was going to back down from that challenge. “Fine.” She nodded toward the people in line to get dinner.
Once they were in line, she sidled up behind the man in front of them, leaning close enough so that he could hear her not-quite-whispered, “Penis.” The man glanced around and Maddie looked away quickly, feigning interest in the ceiling.
