Maddie snapped her fingers and pointed a thank-you at him. “Stink bombs, yes. That’s what they’re called.” Laughter came at the thought of someone throwing around stink bombs at a funeral. In her opinion, it was always good to be able to laugh at situations like that. Make a sad situation not so sad. She cast her eyes up at him for a moment, before looking ahead again. “I know, right? People need to get better senses of humor.”
“Bitch all you want. Next best thing to feeling better.” At least as far as she was concerned. She dreaded the coming winter months. Unlike Brandon, Maddie spent a lot of time battling colds and other sicknesses. At least she could say she didn’t get hurt that often, though.
Making a face when he poked her, Maddie took a step to the side, putting space between them so he couldn’t poke her a second time without having to reach farther. “Yep, that’s what I mean. Jeez, Andonbray, I think we’re out of joke sync today.”
She scoffed and moved as if to turn around and walk back to the trampoline. “In that case, maybe I should just hang out here…”
“Penis Game?” Feigning innocence, Maddie arched an eyebrow. She’d played that particular game once before, back when they all lived in the city. She knew the rules, such as they were, and knew that the game more or less got on everyone else’s nerves. But she wanted to amuse herself by making Brandon explain. “Never heard of it.” Her tone didn’t quite pull off the lie.
