Evan was hardly feeling up to a birthday celebration for his brother, but he wouldn't not show up either. He felt guilty, of course, for forgetting, but like George, his mind had been far, far elsewhere over the past few weeks to even think about anything but keeping people alive. If his own birthday had been in August, he'd have forgotten it, too.
Still, he'd borrowed the kitchen from Rae for an hour or so, so he could put together a small dinner—vegetarian chili—and a couple of the extra cookies that Rae had made that day. He couldn't show up empty handed, he just hadn't really had a chance to make his way into town yet to get Daniel anything.
Truthfully, between being fresh out of a horror film and fresh out of a serious argument with his girlfriend, this was the among the last places he wanted to be. But he knew that his siblings would've likely done something like this for him, so it was the least he could do.
He showed up moments after George, the bag of food in his hand and the hand drawn card with "IOU" written on the inside, as well as a short message, Evan raised his fist to knock on the door.
