For a moment, she was quiet, and David worried that he'd picked up the wrong signal. Maybe he'd been right and she hadn't meant to say that she loved him. Maybe it was a case of autocorrect or something.
Then she crawled into his lap. And kissed him no fewer than ten times. David felt his face twisting into a smile and he wrapped his arms around her, ending the rain of kisses with a final one to her lips. Slower and deeper than the rest. He beamed at her when they separated, holding their foreheads together and reaching one hand up to swipe a couple of tears away again.
"I want you too," he told her, relieved to finally be telling her.
He pushed some of her hair out of her face, behind her ear, and just watched her for a second. "I was just... I've been scared. You know?" he shrugged a shoulder. "I don't exactly have the best track record with relationships." The fiasco that was his relationship with Allie was the only real relationship he'd had, but he didn't feel the need to bring that up. "Not the best at things like this, and you should have the best." He gave a little smile, this one slightly more embarrassed. "So I... I mean, yeah, I've always felt the same way, but..." He knew she'd understand.
Something. He arched an eyebrow and watched as she took out a piece of paper—a note—and handed it to him. He tilted his head, intrigued, and unfolded it. "Okay..." he muttered as he looked it over.
His smile grew with each word he read, and by the end he was beaming with his whole face. Setting it aside, he looked at her again and pulled her in for a deep, powerful kiss that he felt all the way down to his toes.
