Luke was quiet for a moment, leaning in to kiss the top of her head.
That's secondary.
He could understand that -- there were a lot of things he put behind trying to be there for George, too. It seemed only fair. Right. Like something he was supposed to do.
It was hard not to feel bad, though. He knew it could be weird for her to deal with Uncle B sometimes; they just didn't mesh, and as much as he wished they did it didn't seem like something that would happen. Maybe later. Someday. It was enough to know that she was willing to be there for Luke now, regardless of anything else; it meant she knew what was important to him. That made him happy for just long enough to smile.
A moment later, though, his expression darkened. "I'm not going to... Be like Evan. Don't worry, George. I promise I'll never let things get that bad. I just... I don't know."
He shrugged. "I'll be okay. Give me a few days. It helps that you're... It helps to have you here. With me."
Even though I'm an idiot.
Luke managed another smile to try and emphasize this, though it was a little sadder. "Don't worry."
