When the stupid bitchy lady who was always snarling at Allie for one reason or another did her little snooty irritating thing that she always did, Ollie narrowed his eyes at the lumpy sleeping bag that he knew housed the woman who always loved snipping at them. He'd have snipped back if he thought it would do any good. Besides that, he was more concerned with Allie than anything else. She was his top priority. He turned his attention back to Allie, watching as her anger seemed to morph. It was still there, and Ollie suspected that it would be there for quite some time. But it was different now, more laced with concern that it had been. And now Ollie felt guiltier.
As much as he wanted his sister not to be angry with him, he didn't like it when she was sad or upset either. The anger was laced with guilt and a little bit of sadness now, maybe something else too, and Ollie frowned. That was not what he'd wanted at all.
He hugged Allie sort of tight when she leaned into him, hoping that he could osmosis an apology to his sister like this. He had meant what he said, that he didn't blame her for being mad. Ollie had gone out knowing that it hadn't been safe, after all. And he'd definitely expected her ire here. But if he could fix it, he would. He kissed the back of her head and watched as she pulled back from the hug, then asked him a very loaded question.
Was there any way to answer that without pissing her off? Probably not. Ollie decided, though, that honesty was the best policy. "Yeah," he nodded. "I did. I think I did anyway. She was pretty nice. I half expected to show up and meet with a drag queen, which would've been relatively awesome. But it wasn't. It was a girl, and she was amusing…" he smirked.
She started giving her "Allie Lecture" again—Allie's lectures to him were always a little more halfhearted than they were to anyone else, he noticed—and he looked at her apologetically. "I am sorry. Really. I hadn't planned on this happening, I hope you believe that."
He grabbed his backpack and opened it. "Besides," he said, taking hold of the scarf. "I brought you something…" he added, not pulling the gift out quite yet.
