WHO: Evan and Leah
WHAT: Apologies, hugs and worrying.
WHERE: The roof. Because they can't really talk privately in Evan's room.
WHEN: August 17th, 2019, morning
RATING: Medium.
It wasn't over. Evan should've known that. The fact of the matter was that ever since they'd left the city, it had been one thing after another. And having their first real suspect end up the murderer just would've been too simple. Far too simple. He'd known, deep down, that Silas wasn't the killer. Not only did he really not fit the "vicious serial murderer" archetype, he couldn't really get around without that cane. He made a mental note to apologize; not just for himself but for everyone else and how they had so easily jumped to the conclusion. Maybe he'd do it later. But for now, he had more important things to attend to. He'd been on the go since this morning. Since Brandon has sent that message that there was another body, this one far more gruesome than the last few. When Evan had gotten there, he hadn't expected to see what he'd seen. Yeah, he'd expected a body, but he hadn't expected the throat to be slit. And he especially hadn't expected the fingers to be shoved in the open throat. It had been... bracing. A test of his strength and resolve. They'd spent the next few hours trying to come up with some kind of contingency; what to tell people, how to let them know that the man they had in custody was innocent and because they'd rushed to conclusions, someone else had died already. And this, of course, meant that his family still wasn't safe. So, early in the morning, after another near-sleepless night, he came home. Lilah and Kori sat on the floor with Marigold, but Leah was nowhere to be seen. The verdict was that she was up on the roof, so Evan nodded and took his temporary leave, leaving them in Daniel and George's care. He opened the door to the roof and looked around for Leah. "You up here, cher?" he asked her hopefully, sincerely hoping she hadn't run off somewhere else on her own again. |
