As they moved along, David recognized the path they were taking. The path to the old cell block was one he'd walked a thousand times after Allie had left, with the intent to do some searching on his own. He smiled a little bit when the realization dawned on him. He didn't say anything, just kept smiling and slid his hand into Ellie's as they made their way down the path.
"Old cell block, huh? Awesome."
She asked him if he'd ever seen a ghost before and he chuckled. "No. Well... yes." He paused and looked down at the ground, watching where he stepped. "Sort of. Maybe."
He supposed that warranted explanation. "I'm not sure, really. It might've been, but it also might've been my brother playing a trick on me." He thought back to when they were younger. "We dared each other to go to the oldest, most run down house in Bellevue and spend the night. It was rumored to be haunted and I wanted to go anyway, so I agreed. Elliot was more hesitant, but he didn't want to look like a chicken, you know?" he mused.
The memory of his brother brought a wistful smile to his face. All the good times they'd had when they were younger... they never seemed like enough now. "So we get there and everything seems to point to the place being haunted. Moving curtains, creepy noises..." he thought back and shrugged.
"At about three in the morning, I got up because I needed to get into the cooler we'd brought to get something to drink. And in the corner of the room, I saw this silvery white... aura-like thing. But before I could get to my reader, it was gone."
He shrugged.
"I still think it was a spirit. But we never found out for sure."
