Sebastian took the journal from the other man to flip through it, gingerly, looking at the drawings and jotted notes. He glanced up to flash the man an appreciative smile. "I do this, too! Ah, well... mine are... birds and plants."
The journals on the plants in Sing Sing were starting to read like the world's most boring diary. Some of them were so meticulously detailed that one could almost make a flipbook with the drawings. An animated movie of every single change the plant had undergone. Sebastian spent entirely too much time in the greenhouses.
He chuckled. "I... ah... started when I was a kid. Bird-watching. With... my father. Just... never stopped."
In fact, he'd almost gone into ornithology, but it had been overwhelming to dissect the images, examining skeletal structures and interior workings. He could do that with plants, but with animals it unsettled him. Birds were better enjoyed alive and active, and pictures of birds were better when all the parts were attached. He didn't need to know what was under the feathers. He handed back the journal. "My... ah... my drawings aren't... all that good, however. Very... technical. But, ah, I used to... to keep finches. As pets."
