WHO: Kori and Open. WHAT: Pre-baking desserts for dinner tomorrow, if she doesn't have a heart attack first. WHEN: July 24, evening. WHERE: The pantry. RATING: Low. STATUS: In progress.
Having said she’d cover for Rae until she was more up to it, Kori was reacquainting herself with the pantry in preparation for the next few days. Kitchen duty wasn’t bad, it was just that she never really saw herself as particularly talented at improvising to make a meal. But last time she hadn’t done too horribly, so it stood to reason that she’d be able to do fairly well a second time.
She just needed to take stock of what was available and make her choices from there.
Ever since the lab incident, food coming from the kitchen was a little funky; not awful or inedible but distinctly different from normal. She was hoping that she’d be able to make that change for the better for the next few days before the real food was able to be put out again. Then there was the matter that she’d promised Rae a cake when she saw her tomorrow, one with chocolate involved somehow.
So Kori perused the shelves eventually catching a glimpse of a can of cocoa powder half hidden behind a few cans of cooking spray. It felt deceptively light once it was finally in her hands but popping the lid and seeing the foil seal still in place put her at ease that she’d be able to make a few things out of that can before running out. Whoever had hidden it back there was not going to be happy when they went looking for it but she could hardly let that get in the way of keeping her promise.
She was on her way back to the kitchen with the cocoa and the open bottle of oil in hand when a noise made her stop. Slowly she turned on her heels eyes searching the rows of shelves for the source. Rationally she knew it had to be another resident or a rat, but given the events of the last five days she was the tiniest bit jumpy.
“Hello?” She called hoping that someone would answer her.
